• In Buddhism, The Dark Night of the soul is also known in the 16 stages of insight. On the path to enlightenment, the seperate ego realizes that it will soon be destroyed and fights back in the form of depression, misery, anger, and craving. These negative conditions are a purging of your own weakness and selfishness.
